FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Thinking about adding a fiberglass pool to your backyard? Here are honest answers to the questions we hear most often from Boise-area homeowners — from Idaho winters to installation timelines to what it’s really like to own one.

No. Fiberglass pools are engineered to flex, which is exactly why they perform so well in climates like ours. The shell is a single-piece composite that absorbs ground movement instead of fighting it, and the smooth gel coat surface won’t spall or pit the way concrete can after repeated freeze-thaw cycles. As long as the pool is properly winterized — lines blown out, water lowered below the skimmer, and a winter cover installed — your fiberglass pool is built to handle Treasure Valley winters for decades. We walk every customer through closing procedures and offer professional winterization if you’d rather not do it yourself.

Most of our installations are swimmable in 2–3 weeks once we break ground, compared to 3–5 months for a concrete build. The shell itself is manufactured at the Leisure Pools facility while we handle permits and site prep, so by the time we excavate, the pool is ready to set. The full project — design, permitting, excavation, plumbing, equipment, decking, and backyard restoration — usually wraps in 4–8 weeks depending on decking choices, weather, and inspection scheduling in your specific jurisdiction (Boise, Eagle, Meridian, and Nampa each have slightly different timelines).

We handle it. Sparkle Pools is a true turnkey installer — we pull permits, coordinate inspections, manage excavation and dirt haul-off, run all plumbing and electrical, set equipment, and restore your yard. If your neighborhood has an HOA, we’ll provide the drawings, specs, and site plan you need for submittal, and we’re familiar with the requirements across most Treasure Valley HOAs. Your job is to pick the pool you love and tell us where you want it. We do the rest.

Yes — and fiberglass is arguably the best surface for saltwater. Salt is corrosive to the steel components inside vinyl pool walls and accelerates wear on concrete and plaster finishes, but the non-porous gel coat on a Leisure Fiberglass Pool is completely unaffected by salt. You get softer-feeling water, fewer chemical purchases, gentler swimming for eyes and skin, and no compromise to the structure of your pool. We install saltwater systems as a standard option on nearly every project.

Fiberglass pools do come in pre-engineered shapes — that’s part of why they’re so durable and installable in weeks rather than months — but “limited” undersells the catalog. As Idaho’s exclusive Leisure Pools dealer, we offer 40+ designs ranging from sleek modern rectangles to freeform shapes, plunge pools, lap pools, and large family pools up to roughly 40 feet long. Most homeowners find that what they actually want — a specific depth, a tanning ledge, built-in benches, a spa spillover — is already available without the cost and timeline of a fully custom concrete build. We’ll walk through the catalog with your yard dimensions in hand to find the right fit.

Leisure Pools offers one of the strongest warranties in the industry: a lifetime structural warranty on the pool shell and a lifetime surface warranty on the gel coat against osmotic blistering. That’s backed by a manufacturer that’s been producing fiberglass pools globally since 1996. On top of the manufacturer warranty, Sparkle Pools stands behind our installation workmanship — we’ve been serving Idaho families since 1986, and we’re here long after the install to handle service, repairs, and seasonal care if you ever need us.

Sooner than most people think. To swim by Memorial Day or early June in the Treasure Valley, we recommend starting design and contract conversations the previous fall or early spring. Permits, HOA approval, shell delivery, and weather windows all factor in, and our spring install calendar fills up quickly. That said, fiberglass installs fast enough that mid-season starts are often still possible — if you’re reading this in May, give us a call. We’ll tell you honestly whether we can get you swimming this year or whether early next season is a better target.
